Downers Grove-based Sharing Connections is expanding its name to Sharing Connections Furniture Bank, in order to clarify the organization’s purpose and to educate the community on its services.

United Ways merge
Naperville United Way and United Way of the DuPage Area will merge by October 2008 in order to provide greater efficiency and add more resources to help local residents.

Provena recognized
Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center has received three awards in the Annual Healthcare Marketing Report Awards and two recognitions in the Aster Awards, a national medical marketing awards program.

New area e-magazine
Geneva residents Dawn Vogelsberg and Joe Stanton have established “eGeneva Magazine,” a new electronic publication that provides Geneva community information along with news, area events and city history.

Glenview design center opens
Active Electrical Supply & Fox Lighting Galleries have opened a new design center showroom in the ABT Design Center in Glenview.

DPOE receives award, opens showroom
Des Plaines Office Equipment (DPOE) has been named a recipient of the Hyakuman Kai award from Sharp Document Solutions Company of America, awarded to a select group of dealers who provide service to their local business community. DPOE will also open a showroom in downtown Chicago at 211 W. Wacker Drive, effective July 1.

Chamber honors local small businesses
Newman Architecture earned overall small business of the year honors, beating out 48 competitors, as well as outstanding business in the 6-30 employee category in the 11th annual Small Business of the Year awards program sponsored by the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. Buddingh & Associates, Inc. was named outstanding business in the 1-5 employee category; Packer Engineering in the 31-plus; and Naperville Community Television, Channel 17 in the not-for-profit category.

See’s Candies, a California-based confectioner, has opened a new store at 2513 County Line Road, in Algonquin.

New necktie warehouse opens
The Tie Bar, a necktie company, has opened a new office and warehouse at 424 Fort Hill Road, Unit 143, Naperville. The warehouse is stocked with more than 15,000 neckties.

Business park to open in 2009
Chicago-based JCF Real Estate is to build The Corporate Reserve of St. Charles, a 50-acre corporate business park scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2009.

Truckers awarded
Central States Trucking in Bensenville has earned the fleet safety award for the second year in a row from Acuity Insurance and A.N. Ansay & Associates for exceptional fleet safety and commitment to accident reduction.

Oakbrook Terrace-based David James Group, an integrated marketing communications firm, has recently been recognized as an award-winner at the Pro-Comm Awards, the Chicago Chapter BMA Tower Awards, and the Healthcare Advertising Awards.

New children’s center
Jump!Zone, a family entertainment business specializing in children’s party and play facilities, has opened a new 12,000 square-foot center at Foundry Business Park, 731 N. 17th St., Suite 5, St. Charles.

Inland to merge subsidiaries
Oak Brook-based Inland Bancorp, Inc. will merge and consolidate its subsidiary banks, AmeriMark Bank, Cambridge Bank and Inland Bank and Trust to from the new Inland Bank and Trust.
